(AP) -- COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Legislators want to change some state laws after the scandal over Gov. Mark Sanford's affair.
During the 2010 legislative session, they'll debate measures that would alter how the state elects its top officials, protects its governors and pays for travel.
Senate President Pro Tem Glenn McConnell says lawmakers are just going to move forward on a positive note.
The proposed law changes would allow citizens to use a petition drive to fire the governor and require governors and lieutenant governors have round-the-clock security.
There's also a proposal to elect the governor and lieutenant governor on the same ticket to make any transfer of power seamless.
The proposals follow Sanford's June revelation of his affair and ensuing investigations of his use of planes and campaign money.
