Last minute shoppers have many reasons

There were a lot of people last-minute shopping on Christmas Eve. And they had many reasons why.

The story goes, 'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.' Well, that's probably because they were at Coastal Grand Mall doing their last-minute shopping. And doing it on Christmas Eve is about as last minute as you can get.

Winston McIver tells NewsChannel 15, "With my busy schedule, this is about the time that I can usually get out and get something for my wife and kids and the rest of my family."

Ashlyn Ludwig of Myrtle Beach says Christmas Eve shopping helps gets her in the spirit. "It's one of the best times to come out. I mean you feel it, you can feel the spirit, the business. I love it," she said.

Some have yet to find that perfect gift. "Especially when you're shopping for picky people, it takes longer than you want," Jennifer Palma told us. Nathalie Matamoros explained, "Yes, my parents are very hard to shop for."

Then, there are the bargain hunters. Delores Bishop said, "Lots of times I can get better bargains and sales if I wait. They'll have better deals. I watch for the best bargains"

Others really do have a good excuse. Well, not really. "Every year I say i'm going to not wait 'til the last minute, but it always turns out I forget somebody, or I don't know what somebody wants, so ultimately I'm out here 2 hours before the mall closes, trying to get something," Nima Moghadam told NewsChannel 15.

"We actually started yesterday," Rebecca Lynn explains. She says this is her first time shopping on Christmas Eve. It's typically her husband's tradition. He's in Iraq. She finds his last-minute tradition, "Exhausting. I don't think I'll ever do this again. Between the long lines at Bath and Body Works and the traffic, it's better to spread it out. I think I'll give his tradition back to him."

At least she's in the giving spirit.

Winston McIver is no rookie when it comes to last minute shopping. He seems to have it figured out. "For the most part, I know what I want to get. I've got it in my mind so I just go in the store and get out," McIver tells us. "That's right. I already have it planned out."
