Hundreds of people across the Pee Dee and Grand Strand gave a very important gift Thursday. NewsChannel 15 and the American Red Cross partnered for a blood drive. And people who gave know that their time was well spent.
Howard Hardee's been doing this for a quarter of a century, rolling up his sleeve and donating something that could be the difference between life and death for someone else. He told NewsChannel 15, "Especially this time of year people need it, for accidents, lots of accidents this time of year, that's the main reason."
"I come every year to help save a life, as often as I can really," donor Patty Walker tells us. "I've lost family members and I just think it's an important thing for everybody to do."
At the end of the day, the Red Cross collected 247 units of blood at the three drives in Myrtle Beach, Conway, and Florence. That exceeded their goal for the three sites.
Red Cross worker Amy Knight told us, "We've had a fantastic turnout so we are very excited, and it's important this time of year, so we're thankful they're able to take a break from their holiday activities and give the gift of life."
If you weren't able to donate Thursday, it's not too late. You can always call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE to set up an appointment.
