GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) -- Furman University is preparing to introduce its new president.
The university has announced it hired Rodney A. Smolla (SMOH'-lah) to become the 11th president of the private school of roughly 2,700 students in Greenville.
Smolla will talk to reporters Tuesday. He comes to Furman from Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Va., where he was dean of the law school.
Smolla takes over for David Shi (shy), who plans to retire at the end of June after 16 years leading the university.
Smolla is a 1975 graduate of Yale University, and graduated first in his class from Duke Law School in 1978.
