(AP) -- The former building inspector of a coastal South Carolina city is accused of attempted extortion and of making machine guns.
Arrest warrants released Monday by South Carolina Law Enforcement show 55-year-old Tommy Hall of Folly Beach was arrested Nov. 24 and charged with official misconduct and unlawful possession of a machine gun. He was released from jail the same day.
Investigators accuse Hall of demanding money in August 2008 from two contractors after helping them get construction permits, and of sending a threatening e-mail from his work computer. A separate affidavit says Hall told officers he made three machine guns recovered last May from parts.
The city administrator said Hall hasn't worked for Folly Beach since May. His home number rings unanswered without voicemail.
