(AP) -- The Coast Guard rescued a 52-year-old North Carolina man who suffered a head injury when he slipped and fell aboard a tug in the Atlantic Ocean.
A statement from Seventh Coast Guard District office in Savannah, Ga., said the rescue took place Sunday morning, 54 miles southeast of Winyah Bay.
The statement said the man, who is from Wanchese, injured his head aboard a tug heading to Yonkers, N.Y. Concern over the man's injury heightened when he began showing symptoms of a heart attack.
A Coast Guard rescue crew from Charleston hoisted the man off the tug in 20-foot seas and transported him by helicopter to Georgetown Memorial Hospital, where the statement said he was listed in stable condition. A hospital official had no further information Sunday night.
