A local non-profit organization dedicated to providing formal wear to high school students in need has received a donation of its own.
The Market Common donated retail space for Katie's Project which was founded in 2007 by an Horry County high school student.
In 2008, Katie's Project gave away close to 500 prom dresses to girls who couldn't afford a new one. Last year, they worked out of a storage unit, but for this year's season they have a shop at The Market Common.
Sarah George, the project coordinator, said the project has been so successful that they're expanding into Georgetown County as well as Columbus and Brunswick Counties in North Carolina.
"When you see a girl who gets the dress and finds the perfect shoes and everything and then they know they're going to have their hair and makeup and nails and everything taken care of ... it's very rewarding," George said.
