Last October, officers charged Johnson for the murders of Rachel Samuel and Joretha Kirk.
A registered sex offender accused of killing two Florence women and then burying their bodies in his backyard, appeared in court Thursday morning.
Tommy Johnson was in court for a status hearing on his case. He learned he'll be back in court sometime next month.
Last October, officers charged him for the murders of Rachel Samuel and Joretha Kirk. Both women had been reported missing. Their bodies were found in shallow graves in Johnson's back yard off of Gaillard Street in Florence.
The victims' families tell us the last year hasn't been easy for them, especially during the holidays. "I keep remembering how Thanksgiving just passed and how she would cook the collards and take care of us," said Liz Samuel, Rachel's sister. "This time last year we were opening presents, getting each other gifts and this year it's just like - she's gone," said Willette Burrell, Joretha's sister.
Police say the women were acquaintances of Johnson.
He has been jailed since his arrest last October.
