The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) has scheduled a public hearing in Florence County Tuesday, Dec. 8, concerning preliminary plans for the proposed widening of a portion of US 378 near Kingsburg.

The hearing will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Commons Area of Lake City High School, 652 N. Matthews Road in Lake City.

The purpose of the hearing is to provide an opportunity to review and discuss, with representatives from SCDOT, preliminary plans for the proposed widening of US 378, from Lois Street near the intersection of US 378 Business, to SC 41/Kingsburg Highway near Kingsburg.

Proposed improvements include:

1) widening of US 378 from two lanes to five lanes, with a 15-foot paved median

2) replacement/extension of existing bridges/culverts

3) various intersection upgrades throughout.

Another purpose of the hearing will be to gather information from the public or any interested organization, on historic or cultural resources in the area.
