COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- The South Carolina Air and Army National Guard is presenting a $25,000 check to the program that transports World War II veterans to war memorials free of charge.
The money comes from proceeds from the October air and ground exposition held at the McEntire Joint National Guard Base outside Eastover.
A National Guard spokesman said representatives from the expo's major sponsors - Walmart, South Carolina Electric & Gas Co., and the state's National Guard Association - are presenting the check at a ceremony Tuesday in downtown Columbia.
The spokesman says the Honor Flight Program was chosen because it is a way for the state National Guard units to show support for their local community.
