MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (AP) -- The field for the Republican nomination in South Carolina's 1st Congressional District just got more crowded.
Mount Pleasant attorney Mark Fava (FAY-vuh) announced Monday he's running for the seat held by incumbent Republican Henry Brown.
Carroll Campbell III, the son of late Gov. Carroll Campbell, is also challenging Brown.
Fava also comes from a political family. His father, Ed, was a former Charleston County administrator and member of the county council.
The younger Fava, who is 46, formerly served on the Mount Pleasant Town Council. He tells The Associated Press it's a democracy and some of the nation's best elected officials have come from primary challenges.
Three Democrats are also considering the 1st District race.
