Wednesday, 150 families in Marion County received free turkeys and the trimmings for their Thanksgiving dinners. It was compliments of a church in a community hit hard this year with plant closings and other job losses.
Dozens of families waited inside Saint James AME Church in Marion County to get help this Thanksgiving holiday.
Bags and bags of groceries sat inside the church's pantry.
Parishioners partnered with Harvest Hope Food Bank and gave free turkeys, canned goods, and dry foods to families in need.
"People are losing their jobs. People are losing their homes. The least we can do is share a little love and a little food on their table," said Reverend Georgeann Pringle.
Food that Melissa Hyatt said she can use. She's disabled and out of work with four mouths to feed.
"When you have four kids, the way that the economy has died and everything, you do what you have to do feed your family," said Hyatt.
Melissa is thankful for the church's help.
"We just want to give back what has already been given to us as a church family," said Reverend Pringle.
