GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) -- A South Carolina man has been placed on probation for three years for reckless homicide after his speeding Maserati hit a house and killed a Greenville man.
Circuit Judge James Williams on Monday also ordered John Ludwig to perform 500 hours of community service.
Ludwig entered the guilty plea to the lesser charge after being charged with murder in the April 25 death of 62-year-old Frederic Bardsley.
Authorities say Ludwig was driving more than 85 mph and lost control of his Maserati, which sped across a field before plowing into the back of Bardsley's home.
His wife, who was upstairs, was unhurt.
Ludwig suffered minor injuries. His attorneys have said he lost control after swerving to miss several deer.
Prosecutor Bob Ariail had requested the maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.
