A Florence furniture company is teaming up with Harvest Hope to help stock up their food bank.

Saturday afternoon, employees at Haverty's Furniture held a food drive at their business on South Cashua Drive.

They collected a lot of food, including canned goods and cereal for Harvest Hope.

Officials at Harvest Hope tell us this is a critical time for them because of the economy in the Pee Dee.

"People despite the fact that they are working their hardest. Despite the fact that they're trying to provide for their families have slipped below the poverty level," said Skot Garrick of Harvest Hope.

"Our company, I'm fortunate to work for a company that is 125 years old and it has from the inception been a company that's been very involved in caring for their community," Steve Borchardt of Haverty's Furniture.

Haverty's customers who donated food also got a chance to take part in a bow making and gift wrapping class.

The food collection barrels will remain at Haverty's until Thanksgiving.
