A fund has been set up for the woman who tried to chase down a purse snatcher, but ended up being run over by her.
50-year-old Brenda Williams is in the hospital fighting for her life and possibly paralyzed from the waist down after the accident.
The suspect, who's name has not been released, is in custody in Georgia but won't be charged until she's extradited.
It all happened Monday at the K-Mart store in Myrtle Beach. A young woman ran out of the K-Mart carrying a handbag, followed by an elderly woman screaming, "she took my purse."
Williams and another bystander followed the thief to her car and tried to grab the purse back before she could get away. The woman started the car and dragged Williams for around 100 feet before Williams went under the back tires.
Williams' friends and family, who call her a hero, say she's a single mom and the family is struggling. They've set up a fund "For the Recovery of Brenda D. Williams." Anyone can donate money for expenses at any Conway National Bank branch.
