The City of Myrtle Beach has begun deciding how to distribute its Accomodations Tax revenue.
Officials say the city will receive about $6.7 million in A-Tax revenue this year. Most of that money will go toward providing the extra police and fire protection that comes from having millions of tourists visit the area. But more than two dozen local agencies and groups are also coming before the A-Tax committee to ask for some of that revenue.
"Generally we have about $600,000 that we can give to the arts and cultural organizations, and I would expect that to be true this year as well. It will be in the $600,000 neighborhood," said Myrtle Beach's spokesman, Mark Kruea.
Kruea says A-Tax revenue will be down about one to three percent this year, which he says is fairly good, considering the weak economy.
