Voter turnout in North Myrtle Beach was strong today. The big race is for mayor, but there are three council seats up for grabs.
The incumbent Mayor Marilyn Hatley is going for a third term. Politically, she's been pretty popular with voters in North Myrtle Beach, though some questions earlier this year over the Horry County Wildfire and the city's response, made for tense weeks for the mayor.
Hatley has far out-raised any of her opponents, according to disclosures to the State Ethics Commission. Hatley brought over about $26,000 from her last race. So she already had that in the pot. This year, she added more than $17,000 to that. So, she's looking at about $44,000, though she has spent a good chunk of that.
She's up against Dawn Lampen, Gene Sheppard, and Gary Stephens. According to public disclosure records online, the only other candidate to raise any money was Gene Sheppard, but he's only got about $800 in the bank.
There are also three council seats up for grabs in North Myrtle Beach. The Ocean Drive and At-Large seats are uncontested. The Windy Hill seat has two candidates running, Gregory Duckworth and James Robertson.
