A spokesman with the Horry County Police Department confirms Atlantic Beach Police Chief Randy Rizzo was arrested in Horry County for being drunk in public.
According to the Horry County Police Crime Report, Wednesday morning, around 1:45am, an officer was patrolling the parking lot of the Food Lion on Highway 544 and saw a man he later identified as Chief Randy Rizzo, walking from Break Room Billiards toward Myrtle Ridge subdivision.
The report says Rizzo was "extremely unsteady on his feet and appeared to almost fall." The officer then says he saw Rizzo get into a pick up truck and move the truck into a parking space closer to the Billiard Room. The officer says in the report that Rizzo was slurring his words. The officer says Rizzo asked if the officer knew who he was. The officer replied that it didn't matter. The officer warned Rizzo not to drive, and Rizzo went back into the bar, according to the report.
The report then says a short time later Rizzo was again seen moving the truck in the parking lot, so the officer approached him and told him to stay in the car. The officer says Rizzo asked why the officer was "doing this to him." The officer says he then waited for a supervisor to arrive, at which time Rizzo was arrested.
The jail's website says Rizzo is charged with Public Disorderly and Public Intoxication. We'll have more on this story later here on CarolinaLive.com and tonight on NewsChannel 15 at 6.
