The former chairman of the South Carolina GOP says he wants Myrtle Beach to host the Republican National Convention in 2012.
Katon Dawson said Thursday, Myrtle Beach proved with last year's presidential debates that the Grand Strand could handle it. He says Myrtle Beach is the only city in the state with the hotel rooms and the experience to be able to pull off a national party convention.
Dawson says people shouldn't discount Myrtle Beach from being able to do anything. "When you look and see how we did a national debate here from people, from countries all over the world, 1100 journalists, everything is possible, because it was a tremendous success, not just for Myrtle Beach but the state of South Carolina," said Dawson.
Dawson says he knows how to get Myrtle Beach started, in putting up a bid for the convention.
