COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Attorneys for South Carolina are set to present oral arguments to the nation's highest court about why utilities and municipalities should stay out of the state's water dispute with North Carolina.
South Carolina Attorney General Henry McMaster and others are scheduled to appear before the U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday.
In 2007, South Carolina filed a federal lawsuit seeking to stop North Carolina from draining the Catawba River basin. A special master has been appointed to help resolve the dispute.
Last year, that special master allowed the city of Charlotte, N.C., Duke Energy and a water system to enter the case. South Carolina says they will make litigation more costly.
Arguments had been scheduled for last week but were postponed until Tuesday.
