A Darlington County man has been charged with boating under the influence in an accident that killed a passenger on his boat.

Thursday morning, dive teams recovered the victim's body from a Hartsville lake, after about an eight hour search.

The suspect, John Newsome, III is in the hospital after suffering minor injuries in the boating accident.

DNR investigators say he he is expected to be released Friday, and he will be taken to jail for what happened on Prestwood Lake Wednesday afternoon.

The eight hour search and rescue mission came to an end just after 9:00 a.m. Thursday, when a search plane spotted the body of 35-year-old Deagose "Tron" Robinson in Prestwood Lake in Hartsville.

Robinson's family members watched and embraced each other when they got the news.

"Everybody was just upset and we just came to the scene," said cousin Kelvin Council.

Wednesday afternoon, Tron was on a 38-foot cigarette boat that was being operated by John Newsome, III.

According to DNR officers, Newsome was testing the engine when the boat flipped during a turn overthrowing both men.

Crews managed to rescue Newsome, but Robinson never surfaced.

His family hoped he would be found alive, even though they say he couldn't swim.

"A sleepless night no rest walking around pacing around the house at night just worried," added cousin Tim McCray.

McCray worried and wondered why Tron was even on the boat.

"No, I have no idea why he was on there. nobody don't know that."

DNR investigators say they do know Newsome was under the influence and will be charged in the accident.

His boat has been impounded and everything on it seized into evidence, according to officers.

Tron Robinson's family says they're still in shock.

DNR investigators tell me they're waiting on blood work to see what Newsome was under the influence of.

They also say more charges could be forthcoming.

Hartsville police and the city fire department helped in the search.
