(AP) -- CONWAY, S.C. (AP) - The fire chief in one of South Carolina's busiest tourist spots says he won't alter his agency's practices even though his crews failed to extinguish a small blaze that mushroomed into the worst wildfire in state history.
Horry County Fire Chief Garry Alderman also told The Associated Press his department has not formally reviewed the half-acre brush fire that rekindled and destroyed 75 homes in April.
Alderman says he doesn't think there was anything his crews could have done differently.
Agencies in other fire-prone areas drench fire scenes with thousands of gallons of water, leave behind sprinkler systems, or return to ensure fires aren't sparking back to life.
Officials say fires that smolder undetected can roar back to life.
