(AP) -- South Carolina House Speaker Bobby Harrell says Gov. Mark Sanford is reversing himself by seeking to keep an investigation by the State Ethics Commission secret.

The Charleston Republican said Friday Sanford is doing everything he can to make sure the investigation is done behind closed doors.

Harrell says he wonders if the investigation might find something bigger than expected and Sanford might want to make sure the new information doesn't become public before January.

Sanford spokesman Ben Fox deferred comment to Sanford's lawyers who did not immediately respond.

Sanford's lawyers want the state Supreme Court to bar Ethics Commission staff from giving the House its investigative report for its impeachment efforts.
