SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) -- A former South Carolina church deacon accused of trying to rob a bank is scheduled to plead guilty to federal charges.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Kevin McDonald said Monday that Bruce Windsor will change his plea to guilty Thursday in federal court in Spartanburg.

Jury selection for the father of four had been set to begin next week.

Prosecutors say Windsor entered a Greenville bank in February with a gun and demanded two bank employees fill two boxes with money. After a 90-minute standoff, he gave up peacefully and released the two hostages unharmed.

Windsor's family has said he snapped because of financial problems. Last month, a federal judge ruled the 43-year-old was competent to stand trial.

He has been held on more than $3 million bond.
