The third in a series of mass food distributions in Horry County will be held Saturday, September 26th at the Grand Strand Senior Center on 21st Ave North in Myrtle Beach from 1:00pm - 3:00pm for any Horry County resident in need of food.
The money for the project came in the form of a grant under the stimulus package from The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) to the Emergency Food and Shelter Program in Horry County which was formed by FEMA to help residents with food, utilities and rent assistance.
This program consists of United Way of Horry County and several of its agencies working together with other non-profits in a collaborative effort to assure Horry County residents receive the help they need. The United Way's food pantries are coordinating a portion of the grant money to purchase food for the mass distribution sites to help feed our neighbors who are experiencing difficult economic times. These pantries are: Churches Assisting People, Helping Hand of Myrtle Beach and North Strand Helping Hand.
Saturday's distribution is being hosted by Helping Hand of Myrtle Beach. Food is being purchased through Bi-Lo on 38th Avenue North and the Low Country Food Bank. The distribution is open to all Horry County residents, one per household.
The final distribution is scheduled for Saturday, November 14, 2009 at Socastee United Methodist Church. By the end of the third distribution, over 1,000 families in Horry County will have received food.
