Horry County is a step closer to getting a new boat ramp and county park.

The county's infrastructure and regulations committee approved the concept of a park on a 14-acre site under the Highway 17 and 22 overpass. Councilman Brent Schulz came up with the idea.

He says he's looking to get grants and private funding, so local taxpayers wouldn't have to pay for it.

Schulz says the park would cost around $2.3 million, and could begin construction in 18 months.

The county currently doesn't have any boat ramps between Socastee and North Myrtle Beach.
