(AP) -- Federal documents show the Department of Homeland Security temporarily pulled South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford's security clearance following his secret trip to Argentina due to concerns over his reliability and honesty.
The Post and Courier of Charleston reported Wednesday that documents obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request show the federal agency suspended Sanford's access to classified information for a week before calling the decision an error.
A Homeland Security division chief notified Sanford in a July 1 letter the Republican governor's actions raised questions about his judgment and trustworthiness.
The letter came a week after Sanford confessed a yearlong affair with an Argentine woman during a rambling, tearful news conference.
