People gathered on the south end of the Grand Strand to pay tribute to those who lost their lives eight years ago on this day.

In what has become an annual event in Murrells Inlet, folks gathered at Dead Dog Saloon.  The event started at 11:00am with live music. Formal ceremonies began at 1:00pm. NewsChannel 15 Chief Meteorologist Ed Piotrowski spoke to the crowd about his family's proud miltary history.

Proceeds from the event at Dead Dog go to the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office "Shop with Santa" program and the "Horry and Georgetown counties' "Fire and Life Safety Expo."

The event began as an idea to allow a gathering of people to reflect upon 9/11, to remember those who were lost, and to honor those who saved so many.

Each year, the event grows, allowing Dead Dog to contribute more than $100,000 to charitable causes.
