Local police officers lent a helping hand to aspiring police officers Saturday.

Coastal Carolina Lodge 12 of the Fraternal Order of Police held their annual golf tournament at Burning Ridge Golf Course Saturday afternoon.

Proceeds from the event benefit scholarship programs at Horry-Georgetown Technical College as well as Coastal Carolina University -- for students focusing on criminal justice degrees. The tournament also benefited children of law enforcement officers.

"It's important to give back to our community and these scholarships benefit students at Horry-Georgetown and Coastal Carolina that are pursuing criminal justice degrees and it's a good chance for us to get together a little bit of fellowship, and we give back to our communities," said Detective Tim Troxell of the Horry County Police Department.
