President Obama has a speech to school children scheduled for this Tuesday, September 8th. His message to them will be to work hard and stay in school. Though some parents think the President will use this opportunity to push a liberal agenda on to young students.
"I think the President should stay in the White House and take care of matters," said Mary Ellen Amabile, a grandmother. Amabile says this is just another example of President Obama overstepping his boundaries.
Horry County Republican Chairman Robert Rabon says it's just a matter of timing.
"Talk to them about crime, doing well in school, i think that's great, but I think he needs to do it at 7:00 at night when the kids are at home with their parents, and the parents can reinforce what he says, if it's positive."
Some parents welcome the president speaking to their children, like Amy Holiday.
"I feel it's a great thing. I think that the president should get involved with children, and that children should recognize what the President does for this country," she says.
Jason Dailey, a dad, agrees. "It's America and we all have free choices. So, I'm open to anyone speaking to anybody and you make a decision for yourself."
Whether they appreciate the President's speech or not, parents at least agree that lasting lessons should come, not so much from the White House, but the house where kids grow up.
The White House plans to release the speech online Monday so parents can read it.
Most school districts recommend if you don't want your child to watch the speech contact your child's school and say you want to opt out of it.
