(AP) -- Nine golf courses on South Carolina's Grand Strand are hosting the third annual Patriot Golf Day event during the Labor Day weekend.

From Friday through Monday, golfers at courses managed by Burroughs & Chapin are being asked to donate at least $1 for scholarships for the children of military personnel killed or wounded in the line of duty.

On Saturday, $5 from every greens fee will be donated as well. Also Saturday, seven PGA golf professionals from the courses will accept community pledges and play as many holes as possible at The Members Club from 6 a.m. until sundown.

Patriot Golf Day is held at courses nationwide with the proceeds benefiting the Folds of Honor Foundation. Last year, 3,800 courses raised more than $2 million.
