Horry County is taking up the issue of outdoor burning in the wake of the April wildfires.

The Forestry Commission said someone burning yard trash sparked the fire, and they were burning on a day when a red flag alert was in place.

Horry County will now make it illegal for some residents to burn outdoors on days when red flag alerts have gone up.

The new ordinance would only apply to subdivisions with 11 or more homes.
