They call it the largest "single site" golf event on the planet. More than 3,000 players are on the Grand Strand this week to compete in the World Amateur Handicap Championship.
A total of 52 different golf courses are hosting this year's event. Players from all 50 states and at least 20 foreign countries are here. Rain delayed play for about two hours Monday morning, but the golfers did complete their rounds.
The tournament uses a handicap formula to even the playing field and it's open to all golfers.
"It's a great experience. This is a veritable, cultural melting pot of people. You've got all sides of the world. The largest one in the world and that in and of itself impressed me being a large tournament where everybody, doesn't matter where you're from, you're all basically, handicap notwithstanding, equal on a golf course," said Pete Shukstor, a golfer from Joliet, IL.
On Friday, a world champion will be crowned.
