(Updated:  11:15am Monday) There is a water main break on Highway 403 in the Town of Timmonsville, according to Fire Chief Malcom Simon.

Due to a loss of pressure as a result of the break, the SC Department of Health and Environmental Control is advising water customers of the Town of Timmonsville to vigorously boil their water for at least one full minute prior to drinking or cooking.

A news release from the Town of Timmonsville says there has been no confirmed contamination of the system, but the potential for contamination exists.

The town also advises that any ice made from water which has not been boiled, should not be used for drinking purposes.

Water system personnel are working to restore pressure to the system.

Any questions should be directed to the Town of Timmonsville at 843-346-7942 or DHEC at 843-661-4825.
