Coastal Carolina University students living on campus this year are learning to reuse and recycle.

Recycling bins have been placed in the residence halls and a "green team" of students will be going around to dorm rooms collecting recyclable items.

Also, tailgaters and fans at CCU football games this fall will be urged to recycle their eating utensils. All the items will be picked up by the Horry County Solid Waste Authority.

"We have a 30 cubic roll off dumpster meant for recycling on campus, located right by the dorms, the students will drop it off there. It takes everything from the plastic to the glass, and aluminum to the paper to the cardboard," said Marissa Mitzner, CCU's sustainability director.

Mitzner says she and other members of the green team will be visiting classrooms this semester, informing students about the benefits of recycling.
