COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina's schools chief is launching his back-to-school tour with an online teachers meeting and school visits.
State schools Superintendent Jim Rex is meeting Monday afternoon with teachers and administrators statewide. Educators can ask Rex questions by e-mailing inourschools@scetv.org before or during the hour-long meeting.
Rex plans to visit two elementary schools on Tuesday.
He will first visit Pleasant Hill Elementary's half-day language immersion program. Students communicate with their teachers in Spanish only for science and math.
It is an option for Lexington 1 students in kindergarten through third grade.
Rex will then visit Byrd Elementary in Graniteville.
The school year began last week for most students statewide.
