Many families are looking for bargains for back to school items this summer, according to new retail figures.
The National Retail Federation says the average family will spend about 8 percent less on back to school merchandise this year.
Their survey shows 50 percent of consumers plan to spend less on back to school and 40 percent will use more coupons.
NewsChannel 15 found some parents shopping in Horry County, who said they're concentrating on buying only the basics, with nothing frivolous this year.
"It's hard when you have two kids and they go to public schools so they need clothes on a daily basis," said Paula Ellis.
The Ellis's say they're paying closer attention to sales and discounts than they did last year.
The NRF says back to school is the second biggest season of the year for retailers, after Christmas.
