COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- A VA hospital in South Carolina is honoring veterans and prisoners of war in a special ceremony.

Veterans Affairs officials say former prisoner of war Guy Wright will speak at the ceremony at the William Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia on Friday afternoon.

Officials say Wright spent 1,225 days as a slave laborer in Japanese POW camps in the Philippines, Formosa, China and Japan. He was liberated from a POW camp in Yokohama, Japan, in September 1945.

The public is invited to attend the ceremony.

The VA Medical Center has 172 beds and saw more than 61,000 veterans as patients last year.
