Some Coastal Carolina University men's basketball players are helping to make sure children are healthy when they reach school age.
Several players, along with head coach Cliff Ellis, and his wife Carolyn dedicated a new playground at the Pawleys Island Child Development Center.
The group, First Steps of Georgetown County, will use the playground as they help pre-schoolers reach first grade healthy and ready for success.
Coach Ellis says centers like these are bigger than sports.
"You're helping them win in life, winning a basketball game does not compare to winning in life," said Ellis.
A recent study determined one in seven children in South Carolina were unprepared for first grade, increasing their risk for school failure.
