Shoppers are out in droves this weekend, taking advantage of the sales-tax holiday.

State and local sales tax are waived this weekend for back-to-school items like school supplies, footwear, clothing and computers.

Many stores offer their own discounts to add to the savings.

The tax break adds up to nearly $3 million in savings for South Carolina shoppers -- money that typically would be going towards the state budget.

NewsChannel 15 caught up with folks enjoying day two of the tax holiday at the Tanger Outlet Mall on Highway 501.

"I said, 'alright, we're going shopping.' That was two weeks ago I think when (my friend) told me, so we had this weekend set to go school shopping," said one shopper from Myrtle Beach.

Daphne Johnson, an employee at Tanger Outlets noticed that the mall was "busy, real busy!"

The tax-free weekend ends at midnight Sunday night.
