GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) -- The Syrian woman held by immigration officials for overstaying her visa while teaching Arabic at Clemson University is out on bond.
Taiyo Davis told The Greenville News he posted a $5,000 bond to have his wife, 29-year-old Tharwat Alasadi, released from jail on Wednesday.
Alasadi was in the country on a Fulbright program that required her to return to Syria for two years. Davis says his wife applied for a waiver to remain in the United States because her visa expired in May.
Alasadi was arrested last month at the couple's apartment and jailed in North Carolina and Alabama.
Davis says a condition of his wife's release required she have a plane ticket home. He says he will keep working out options with an attorney when his wife flies to Syria Aug. 17.
