People all over the country and right here in our area gathered with their neighbors to take a stand against crime.
The event is called National Night Out against crime.
In the Myrtle Beach community of Withers Swash, neighbors were able to talk to police and there were plenty of things for the kids to do.
The goal of national night out is to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness.
"We want people to get involved, if not in their community watch program, just to pick up the phone and call the police department and report any suspicious activity. Just really to look out for one another to improve the quality of life in the area," said Sgt. John Bertang with Myrtle Beach Police.
National Night Out started back in 1984.
Last year around 37 million people around the country took part.
