A coastal community turned out Saturday to help a three-year-old boy with cancer. Some of those who showed up to help were complete strangers.

At the Beaver Bar in Murrells Inlet, barbeque was served, silent auctions held and games set up for the kids. The bar's owner, Leslie Beaver, was approached to help raise money for three-year-old cancer patient, Brody Smith.

The little boy is being treated at Saint Jude's Hospital, and people wanted to help offset some of the costs.

"We have a 13 month old and when things like that happen in families, especially in your community you want to kind of support other families. Because you know if it happened to you, you'd want that support too," said Joey Grungan, who attended the fundraiser.

Brody Smith did fly home Friday night from Saint Jude's to attend the event.
