Horry County Schools has received an upgraded credit rating from Standard and Poor's, rising from AA- to AA.

This upgrade in rating is due to the District's strong financial performance and management oversight coupled with a continually expanding tax base despite the overall economic slowdown.

Only five other school districts in South Carolina hold the rating of AA or higher, which include Beaufort County, Charleston County, Greenville County, School District Five of Lexington and Richland Counties, and Richard School District Two.

The rating boost provided enhanced marketability for the sale of bonds which ultimately lowers interest costs and provides savings to taxpayers
