The Smosska corporation is holding a job fair in Florence.
NewsChannel 15 continues to look into a company that says it will bring 3,000 jobs to Florence County.
We've now learned the Better Business Bureau is investigating the legitimacy of the company and the jobs.
The Better Business Bureau said Tuesday they haven't received any complaints on the company, but say they have some very serious concerns about the company and that's why they're investigating.
Wednesday Florence County Economic Development officials finally met with the CEO and president of the Smosska corporation.
NewsChannel 15 first reported Monday about a job fair the Smosska corporation is holding in Florence.
The company president and CEO Michelle "MJ" Adams said they're looking to hire 3,000 employees - 400 of them are needed in the coming weeks.
"It has grown more than what I thought it would. I thought it would only have about 10-20 employees but now we need more than employees because we have more files coming in each day," said Adams.
The company is charging applicants $40 to take an assessment test.
That's legal according to the Department of Commerce, but it concerns Kathy Graham with the Better Business Bureau.
"Anytime consumers have to pay to apply for a job, immediate red flag. Although it's not illegal, it's very uncommon," said Graham.
Another red flag for Graham is Smosska's sudden need for 3,000 workers.
"How do you go from 10 people to 450 people then to 3,000 people? I don't understand and again, until we know something solid, consumers beware," Kathy Graham said.
Kathy says there are enough red flags for them to investigate.
The Florence County Economic Development officials says a meeting with Michelle Adams went very well Wednesday afternoon and they're looking forward to working with her company.
"She was very adamant about their desire to grow here in Florence County and we're very pleased to hear that," said Kyle Edney with the Florence City Economic Development.
Smosska makes computerized cards that contain a patient's entire medical history.
They're looking to hire the first 400 people by the end of this month.
NewsChannel 15 will keep you updated on the investigation.
