Michael Jackson's death was certainly news heard round the world Thursday night. In fact, so many people searched Jackson's name in a short period of time -- the computers running Google's news section interpreted it as an automated attack.

The tidal wave of internet traffic slowed the entire world wide web down to a snail's pace for many sites.

NewsChannel 15 hit the streets to find out what people in our area thought as they heard the news of Jackson's death, and here's what they had to say:

Tiffany Adams said, "I was really shocked, because you know, Michael Jackson was really considered a legend. He's really going to be missed."

"I couldn't believe it," said Adam Bishop, "I never thought he'd go so early."

"I was shocked, stunned. I called and texted a lot of my friends because I just couldn't believe it -- it's still kind of a shock," explained Janine McCoy.

"I was just shocked," recalled Carl Blain, "the 'King of Pop,' 50 years is always young."

"I really don't care... I don't like him as a singer, I don't like him as a person," admitted Tony Stuart.

"Jackson had a pretty controversial personal life," remembered Timmy Tyner, "One that I didn't necessarily agree with, with all his recent court cases in the past and stuff, he was a little too risque for my conservative taste."

"Of course some people did not like him, but I think his fan base is much greater than the small minority," said McCoy.

"He had a bad childhood. Let's say it like it is. I know that everybody knows it. He had a bad father, and he had some issues when he was younger, and they probably got better when he was older, but hey, everybody has issues" argued Tim Alexander.

"I think I'm going to remember the music," said Tisha Miller, "Everybody has some issues in life, but I'm going to remember him for the music -- which was excellent."

"He was good. That's right, the man had it going on. He was well known, and I hope he was well liked," said Alexander.

"I think he had a God-given talent. Whether he used it correctly -- I don't think so," admitted Tyner.

"He was great, I loved Michael. He was the best artist I've ever known... He's going to be truly missed," predicted Miller.

Tiffany Adams said, "He's been out there since he was five years old -- with the Jackson 5... now.. he's gone."
