(American Cancer Society/Florence) - Cancer is devastating, but volunteers can ease patient burdens, according to American Cancer Society Mission Delivery Manager Denise Richbourg. The Society ’s Road to Recovery program needs volunteers who are willing to drive patients to their cancer treatments.
To learn more about the program, call Denise Richbourg at 843-685-9205 or e-mail denise.fitz@cancer.org.
Day or night, call 1-800-ACS-2345.
The first local training is scheduled at 1 p.m. July 15 at the Business Technology Center. Other dates and times are available.
A successful Road to Recovery program can be a tremendous asset to the community. Volunteers provide an essential and necessary service.
“Even the greatest medical advancement is useless if the patient cannot get to Treatment,” Richbourg said.
Training, maps, and directions are provided to those who want to volunteer their time. Drivers decide when and where they can help.
“We want this to be an easy and stress-free service for both patients and volunteers,” Richbourg said. Requirements for volunteering include having a good driving record, a valid driving license, and a vehicle that is in good working condition.
