General Electric has donated several educational items to a school in Florence that takes care of Autistic children.
The company donated books, a digital camera, occupational therapy aids and other supplies to Theodore Lester Elementary in Florence, the only school in the district that addresses the needs of Autistic children.
The enrollment for special needs children tripled this year and school officials didn't have the money to buy more supplies to help with the students' therapy.
So G.E. stepped in to help. "Most schools that are strapped, everybody's strapped for funding, so if G.E. can do what we can to get them into therapy faster, it's better for families better for kids better for everybody," said Jim Beier, a G.E. employee.
Last year, G.E. employees renovated the classroom at Lester for Autistic children. In the past two years, the company has donated nearly $8,000 to the school's special needs program.
