The Florence County Department of Health and Environmental Control has confirmed a case of Pertussis, or whooping cough, in a fourth grade student at Briggs Elementary.

A Department of Health and Environmental Control spokesperson says the case is isolated and isn't considered an outbreak.

They are investigating to see who may have come into close contact with the child so they can give them preventative medication.

DHEC has also sent out a letter to the parents of the students in the same class.
