An environmental group is asking the South Carolina Supreme Court to block an application for South Carolina Electric & Gas to build two nuclear reactors in Fairfield County.
Friends of the Earth filed an appeal Friday with the court and said the application approved by the state would force consumers to pick up too much of the tab too soon for the reactors.
They say collecting the money well before construction means consumers have to pay even if the reactors are never built. An SCE&G spokesman did not immediately respond to questions.
